Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well! As you may know if you follow me on Instagram, I recently accepted a job offer at Interview Magazine! I'm the mag's newest assistant editor and I'm so excited to get started. In my last day of Funemployment yesterday, I was putting together a list of everything I had to get ready before my first day and I thought I'd share my little list with you all in case any of you are starting new jobs also!

1. All The Boring Stuff

I've definitely been putting this off the longest, but it's really the most important step. Make sure you've read over your contract and any materials you were given by your company, fill out your tax forms and figure out what if any forms of identification you need to bring on your first day. Once all of that is squared away, you'll feel much better.

2. Research Your Company

For me that means I'll want to read all of the latest issues, know what topics they've already covered so I don't pitch the same thing twice, get a vibe for the tone of the magazine and the type of subjects they often feature and check the website to see what content is getting published there too. I also look at the masthead for names I'll need to know of others who work in my department so I can make sure I know who's who when I start.

3. Learn About Your Office's Neighborhood

This is actually the easiest step for me because Interview is in the same building as Nylon! What are the odds amirite? Well anyway, this is actually a good thing because the things that I was going to suggest for this step (researching the best route to get there so you can see how long the commute will take, look up the best lunch spots in the area so you don't aimlessly wander around your first day) aren't things that I need to do! I know the Soho area very well, have mastered the L train commute, and am grateful I don't have to find new lunch places.

4. Get your hair cut

This is not an essential but getting your hair cut and colored, getting your nails done and picking out a first day outfit will make you feel even more prepared. As the saying goes "look good, feel good!" I feel like you only get one chance to make a first impression and at a new job it's worth it to look as put together as possible.

On a slightly unrelated note I finally got to try out While We Were Young about a week ago where these photos were taken with my friend Sally! The Instagram-bait café is definitely worth the trip. From the atmosphere of blush pink benches and fresh flowers to the food (I recommend the gnocchi!) it was a great spot for an afternoon of catching up. We then walked around the West Village, eventually plopping down in Washington Square Park to enjoy the gorgeous day.
