Mules Shopping Guide

Hey guys and HAPPY SEPTEMBER! Wow when did that happen? I hope you’ve had an awesome week! I’m back with another shopping guide today for an item that I can’t wait to buy more of—mules!

I am truly a flats and chunky heels girl at heart. I experimented briefly with real high heels sometime between the years of 2011-2013, but quickly realized that I just do not mesh well with stilettos. I need footwear that can keep up with me, and that immediately ruled out any sky-high options. Admittedly, for most of the summer I’ve been living in sneakers, alternating between my Vans SK8-Hi Tops and my Converse. But sometimes my mood feels a little fancier than canvas. So when I was browsing on ASOS I felt compelled to check out the sale and came across these red open-toed mules from Truffle Collection. I felt instantly drawn to the fiery red color and the suede texture and threw them in my basket.

Guys, I’ve only had these for a week and I’ve worn them every day—except for the day that it rained. I am now obsessed with this style for a few reasons. First of all, I think they are probably the best option for comfortable but presentable footwear for an office environment. At NYLON it’s much more laid-back, but when I think about offices with stricter dress codes the mules is a great option to make an outfit feel more sophisticated without having to wobble around in higher heels. Also, although I’m against the idea of “transitional” fashion items, I do think that these are shoes that you can wear all spring and summer and well into fall, depending on the texture and the color. I think that if I threw these on with a pair of jeans and a sweater in October, I’d definitely be warm enough and I could extend my wear of these shoes deeper into the calendar year than I could with a pair of more summery sandals. Check out some of my favorite options below!

Do you own a pair of mules? What do you think about them?
