Everything You Need To Know About Glossier's Zit Stick
Last week on the first day of New York Fashion Week (!!!) Glossier decided to drop a new skincare product.
The past few Glossier drops have caused quite a bit of buzz: from the dreamiest daytime mascara that doesn't smudge or clump, to the travel-friendly versions of two of their OG products, to the unveiling of their first eyeshadows, it's been quite the year for this mega beauty brand.
If you've read any of my previous blog posts about Glossier or watched any of my YouTube videos where I review their products you know that I tend to look forward to their skincare launches the most.
So when I heard that Glossier had come out with an acne-zapping product called Zit Stick, I was immediately on board to test it out.
Let's break down how they launched their latest product, what it claims to do, and what my initial thoughts are on it.
The Unveiling
Typically Glossier likes to troll its users on Instagram with at least a hint of what new product might be coming out.
When Solution dropped, Glossier shared DM's that customers had sent to them talking about their skin troubles and included the caption "Solution is coming." And who could forget when Beyoncé wore a new Glossier product to an awards ceremony and we had to spend a solid two weeks guessing at what it was (Lidstar in Fawn, if you were wondering).
This time around I actually was scrolling through the newly revamped The Zoe Report and noticed that there was an article about it in their beauty section.
I Googled the term "Zit Stick" and saw that many other publications had posted about it on September 5th at 8am (when the embargo likely lifted) citing a September 6th launch date on Glossier.com.
I DM'ed Glossier to confirm that it would also be available in the showroom and swung by 123 Lafayette street in between New York Fashion Week shows to pick it up.
The Packaging
Just like Solution, Zit Stick came in a space food-like plastic wrapping that had all of the ingredients listed out on the back. Zit Stick itself is much more compact and it comparable to the Tide pen in both size and look.
I feel like this is obvious but needs to be said: Don't mix this up with your Tide pen!!!!!
Okay, thank you for letting me say that.
But it is about the size of any other marker that you might have at your desk and could easily slip into your makeup bag or in your purse. Just a heads up when you first get the pen it says to "click three times" to get the product out but I had to really twist mine a lot before product came out.
The Product
The formula itself is meant to be an on-the-go spot treatment for the 21st century girl.
Glossier talks about how in the past spot treatments have been thick or super visible and were often done in secret, in the comfort of your own home.
Like, raise your hand if you've ever sat with your wet hair wrapped in a towel and applied toothpaste to your zits to shrink them while sipping on a glass of merlot.
Same.
The idea behind this translucent formula is that you can apply throughout your day when needed.
The website noted that in a clinical trial, 83% of participants noticed their zit had shrunk and reduced redness within three hours. I do the three hour test in my YouTube video so be sure to give that a watch to see how that worked for me. Zit Stick contains 5% Benzoyl Peroxide which kills germs that caused the zit and reduces its size, Capryloyl Salicylic Acid and Tea Tree Oil to soothe.
As with all Glossier products, this one is cruelty-free.
The Verdict
From my first reaction Zit Stick definitely made my zits appear less noticeable and reduced redness and size which is awesome.
I don't know if I'm the kind of girl who would literally toss this product in my bag and apply it throughout the day (also because I'm assuming this doesn't work well if you're wearing foundation or concealer) but it's nice to know that I have the option.
Whether you have a few spots here and there or are struggling with more intense acne, for $14 I'd say this product is definitely worth a try.
