8 Can't-Miss Spots in Miami, Florida

The Standard Miami.jpg

I find it bizarre that some how in my 20-something years of life I'd never been to Miami before. I've been to Disney World in Orlando three times (at ages 4, 8, and 16 so I'm destined to go again at 32) and Naples, Florida once, but somehow Miami slipped through the cracks. That's why when I found out I was going for my job at Interview I was so excited to finally check it out. I spent three days there in total (more like two and a half with travel time) but still managed to squeeze in some really cool stuff! So, I'm sharing eight of my favorite places I went to there, along with a few recommendations I didn't have time to see. But that means that I'll just have to go back someday!

The Standard Hotel and Spa

This was where I stayed and the pool is absolutely amazing. The Standard hotel (pictured above) is on its own little island and you also have the option to swim in the bay if you choose to. Take joy in ordering food and drinks poolside from the hotel restaurant, Lido, and plan on staying all day long.

Española Way

If you want to explore some of Miami’s oldest buildings, you have to take a walk down Española Way. You can see some of the Spanish-style architecture and once you’re done strolling along you can pop into one of the many restaurants that reside on this street.

Bodega Taqueria and Tequila

This restaurant serves up delicious tacos from a traditional truck. Come by Bodega at lunch for a quick bite and a soda, or stop by at night when the restaurant turns into a speakeasy and treat yourself to a tequila cocktail or a refreshing Corona.

Wynwood Walls

I was told to hit up Wynwood if I was missing Brooklyn and it’s easy to see why. This neighborhood is covered in colorful murals that make ordinary restaurants and stores look like works of art. Just put “Wynwood Walls” into the GPS and then take your time walking around and exploring.

Mandolin aegean Bistro

Not only does this restaurant have the cutest name and exterior ever, but the Mediterranean food is to die for. My recommendation? Go to Mandolin with a group and split a ton of appetizers to get a little taste of everything. And don’t forget some wine!

Greenlife Organic Bistro

Another bistro! If you want to walk around the town of South Beach, definitely stop in to Greenlife before doing so to grab a smoothie or juice to keep you cool in the Florida sunshine. You can also sit and enjoy an acai bowl if that’s more your style.

Gelareh Mizrahi

This accessories designer’s personality shines through in her designs, and her store is no exception. The Gelareh Mizrahi space located in Miami’s Design District is bright and colorful. It even has a halfpipe in it, should you want to shred it up while shopping.

OTL

While I only got to try their cold brew, I’ve heard that OTL serves up a mean brunch. This restaurant also located in the Miami Design District features pastel accents with drink choices listed on felt letter boards.

ICA Miami

I am so glad I got to stop into the Institute of Contemporary Art for a reception and panel on my trip. The museum has an outdoor terrace where several sculptures are on display and I was happy that I was able to catch the exhibition of Donald Judd’s paintings while I was there too.

I also wanted to include some things that were recommended to me that I wasn’t able to do:

The Broken Shaker (cocktail bar)
Versailles Restaurant (Cuban food)
Big Pink (diner)
Miami Beach
Perez Art Museum Miami

Have you been to Miami? What’s your favorite spot in the city?
